Catering to Utah's School Districts

In an effort to provide competitive benefits to Utah school board members, districts, and their employees, the USBA actively seeks for and evaluates programs that would deliver these benefits; as well as, increase the effectiveness of our local board members in their governance of Utah's schools.

Insurance Pools Make Member Benefits Affordable

In today’s economy, all our school boards are increasingly being asked to do more with less.  The fact that rising health-care costs continue to take a big bite out of districts’ budgets does not help.
To balance the need to save money while still providing comprehensive, quality benefits, the USBA introduced a health and life insurance “pool”.  This innovated pool gives district the opportunity to buy health insurance-medical, dental, and/or long-term disability insurance-collectively.
Simply put, the insurance pool allows districts to maximize their purchasing power.  By banding together, participating districts have more leverage to negotiate for better health plans, competitive prices, lower administrative costs, and quality service. Also, with larger numbers, if one district experiences high claims one year, chances are greater that those claims will offset by a district with low claims during the same period. As a result, pool participants are in a better position to command favorable renewal terms, and costs are stabilized overall.  In fact, our pool has successfully contained costs over the past few years.  Better yet, the cost savings are realized without sacrificing quality or plan choice.
